Golden Knights winger Jonathan Marchessault found the back of the net once again during a power play in the second period. He now has four goals in the finals, including three power-play goals.
Marchessault has been on fire since the start of the second round, with 13 goals in his last 13 games.
Captain Mark Stone also added a power-play goal in the first period.
I didn t mind our game, said head coach Bruce Cassidy. They made a play in overtime. Sometimes that happens to you.
For the first time in 11 games this postseason, the Golden Knights blew a lead entering the third period. Prior to Game 3 s letdown, Cassidy had a 25-1 career record in the playoffs when his team was ahead at the end of the second period.
Hill had been phenomenal in goal during the first two games in Las Vegas, including a that fans are still gushing about. He looked like a stone wall for the first 57-plus minutes by allowing only one goal, before Tkachuk snuck the puck by him late in the third period. Verhaeghe tagged Hill in overtime for the game-winning goal.
Hill made 20 saves in Game 3 and the Panthers only got 23 total shots off against him. The Golden Knights defense played sharp, aside from two miscues.
Give them credit, said center Jack Eichel. They stuck around, they found a goal at the end and then they win in overtime. Obviously, you don t want to blow a lead when you re up a goal with a few minutes left, but it s all part of it. Nobody said it was going to be easy.
